Restaurant Review

I had a chance to visit the newly opened MOD Pizza in Woodhaven, MI. The parking lot was a shared lot with the rest of a strip mall. The place is decorated inside very nicely. One issue is that there is only one restroom for each gender which can lead to problems. As you enter the restaurant, every employee welcomes you. The genre of people to eat here is all ages male or female that love pizza. The menu is basic because you build your own pizza and the pizza prices range from $5-$12. The portions are great for each respective price and the food is prepared in 5 minutes. There is relatively no wait when you enter the restaurant. Any form of payment is usable and there is no dress code for this establishment.

Today's topic is referee abuse

A specific incident of physical referee abuse that occured in Livonia, Michigan. John Bieniewicz was 44 and a father of two when he was struck and killed June 29th, 2014. He was an official on a men's game, when he was going to deliver a red card to Bassel Saad. Saad proceeded to punch the official and he was knocked unconscious. It is a senseless act to strike an official. The game is meant for enjoyment and somebody lost his life over a player taking the wrong actions after being ejected. After the incident Saad ran to his car and put his middle finger up at the teams and officials and fled the scene. The act that Saad had while fleeing the scene was a representation of his lack of maturity which led to the referee abuse. The 2014 incident was not Saad's first time he assaulted someone. The act of assaulting someone should have been taken seriously, and possibly John Bieniewicz would have never lost his life that day. In 2005, Saad assaulted a player during the match. Since Saad now has multiple incidents, he should not be allowed near any type of youth or amateur soccer events due to his lack of maturity that has been displayed. In the court sentencing John's wife delivered the red card to Saad, because John never had the chance to before he was killed.  Saad took a plea deal with brought his sentence down from second-degree murder down to involuntary manslaughter. His sentence is 8-15 years in prison. Saad must pay $9,200 in restitution and because he was an immigrant from Lebanon he also faces deportation after his sentence. Referee abuse, can be seen as amusing by the fans when the players get in the referee's faces. There is nobody to protect the officials at an amateur game like at a professional game. This leads to situations getting out of hand before any help is offered to the official. Referee abuse is a growing concern in today's wide world of sports and needs to be dealt with. The abuse has gained awareness with a great amount of incidents that have happened in the recent past, and with that ways of avoiding or to help lower the probability of the abuse have been brought to the attention of the officials. However it should not take great media attention to fix this issue. Morally as human beings, we should conduct ourselves better towards each other. Referees are people too, and should be treated as such.  They have been treated as less of a human than everyone else due to the fact they are an official. This outlook needs to change if there is any chance on making sports enjoyable for everyone involved. If steps are not taken to stop the abuse, then the problem will continue to grow and will lead to a bigger controversy down the road.

Product Reviews

Recently I had an opportunity to test 3 items on today's consumer market. Each item had its pros and cons and could be a great benefit for their respective uses

1. PS4
The PlayStation 4 is a great console for all ages. The system is a complete upgrade in every aspect compared to the prior model. The slim console has a slim outer shell to go with a great new controller.

Pros:
The console is slimmer than a the Xbox one and also has a great new controller . The new controller has the same dual shock feel with a great new button response system. You truly feel like you are in the game. The new console has a great new and even faster processor and a great new resolution. It has a great built in blu-ray player which adds to the overall entertainment experience. This console is a great way to entertain your family or to be a hardcore gamer.

Cons: The controllers are only charged via cable so there is not an option to put batteries into the controller. The grips on the controller are also easily ripped. The batteries of the controller also die quickly . The new home interface is super confusing , and the new Spotify app is a great feature with potential however the Sony developers fail to use the untapped potential that this app has. It needs to be integrated better.

2. Xbox One

The Xbox One is a great console for all ages. The system is a complete upgrade in every aspect compared to the prior model. The console has a boxy outer shell to go with a new controller.

Pros:
The console is a lot more powerful and has a higher resolution than years past. It has a great amount of exclusives that are coming to the system. Their is a brand new controller that also came with the system.

Cons:
The console is bulky compared to the PS4. The load time is sometimes unbearable and the new controllers are a disgrace to the Xbox name. The controllers fall apart and are made of plastic. It is sad to see a a product that had a lot of potential but fell short. The Windows 8 time home screen is also a confusing and unresponsive way to navigate.

3. Star Wars Battlefront
This game is a reboot of the old video game series made on the PlayStation 2 model. The beloved game series now continues with this game. It is great for all ages 14+ due to violence and appeals to mild to super Star Wars fans.

Pros: The game captures great online gameplay with the addtion of Heros that are obtained randomly. It is a fast paced game that captures great moments and maps that greatly resemble the Planets in the movie. The space battles are also great because there are always 2 different wars happening in the game. (Space and Ground)

Cons: The game lacks a single player campaign which is disappointing. It would have been a great addition. The lack of variety of the types of matches you can play is also a disheartening feature for the game.

Influential People

Influential People

Personal Level

Kyle has been a very influential person in my life ever since he was my coach when I was little. He helped me develop as a soccer player and as a person, on and off the field. He was more than a coach to me he was a friend. To this day I still see Kyle on a regular basis and he helps me with my everyday problems and is always there when I need him. He has set a great example for me on the way I should carry myself, and how I should go about doing certain things. He is a great soccer coach, friend, and dad to his to kids. Him and his wife have a healthy relationship and I could only wish that my life path went the way his did.

Famous Level

The next person that has influenced me and many other people is Chris Osgood. Chris ended his career as one of the best goalies of all time. He won 3 Stanley cups and was one of the most underrated goalies of all time.He was never given proper credit because of the teams he was a part of. Most people came out and said he only won as many games as he did because he was a Red Wing. Chris came in the 2008 playoffs as the backup for Dominik Hasek. Hasek lost control of a couple games and then Osgood came in and shut down the predators. He then went on to help the wings with the cup. So I think he saved their playoff hopes that year. He was also criticized for his size. He was always thought of being too small. He was always one of the shorter goalies in the league. However he worked hard and was always one of the best goalies each year. His hard work showed me it doesn't matter how small you are or that people don't want to give you the proper recognition. As long as you stay true to yourself you will be fine.

My Career

On a local level Dr. Allan Lamb has ben influential to many people in the medical profession. He currently works as a surgeon at Beaumont Southshore Hospital in Trenton Michigan. However he helped create the most pivotal part of the hospital today. He was one of the leading forces in creating the trauma center at that hospital. He put in a ton of work and money to help make his dream a reality. He now is always on-call and has to respond to all trauma calls. He is always at the hospital but he wouldn't have it any other way. He says that if you love your job like he does than it doesn't matter what you do or how long you work. He still make time for his family and kids as well. He has shown me that no matter how busy you get always remember to make time for the people in your life. He also taught me the importance of choosing a career in which you love doing therefore it is not a "job" but a "career". Therefore I would love and couldn't wait to get into work and I could enjoy every minute of my career.

Bucket List

Bucket List

#1

I spend a lot of my time as a referee. I am an official for the United States Soccer Federation and Michigan High School Athletic Association. I have been doing this for a total of 5 years now. I continue to work to learn the game better to help improve my work. I really love to be a referee I want to work the highest level games that I possibly can, and as a dream would love to do a Division 1 college match or do a professional match. So my dream is something I would like to obtain before I am unable to be fit enough to officiate the high level matches.

#2

I would also love to go to Manchester and see Manchester United play Manchester City at Old Trafford. I have been a fan of them since I was little and would love to fly over and see them play. This would help me obtain 2 dreams. The first is seeing them play and the other is to go to a different country.

#3

I also want to graduate from the Eastern nursing program and become a nurse. I want to be a nurse because I have the natural urge to help people and I know I want to work in medicine because I have a great interest in science of the human body.

#4

Also I would love to own an Audi R8 Spyder before I die. I just fell in love with this car and I would love to have a chance to own or at least drive one before I die. The car is very expensive so I have no idea how I plan to do this but who knows maybe I will have a chance to get this vehicle.

#5

I would also love to be at the game in which the wings win the Stanley Cup. I go to at least 20 games a season and have been going to games since I was little with my Aunt. She always loved to take me to the games and I guess she is the reason I have such a love for the game of hockey even though I have never thought about playing it.

#6

Another dream is to see the Lions win a super bowl. We all know why this is a dream. The constant heartbreak and never winning anything seems like it as to come to an end eventually. At least one would think that one day this team could be good for once. I would just love to see the Lions win their first Super Bowl in my lifetime, I don't feel like that is a harsh time frame to ask for.

#7

I would also love to attend a World Cup final game. This is due to 2 factors. I would love to see the best game that is played at the grandest stage of them all. The atmosphere would be amazing and I would just love to be a part of it. I would also like to see how the best referees officiate such an important and historical match.

#8

The last thing I would love to see is the Tigers win the World Series. This team just seems to get to the Classic and then fall on their faces and get dominated once they are there. I would just love to see them put all the pieces together and end the drought.

Me By the Numbers

Me By the Numbers

How can numbers describe your life? How can it help you tell your story? 5, the amount of years I have been a referee.
7 is the grade of referee I am for soccer. That indicates that I am able to referee adult league soccer. I enjoy being a referee. I don't do it for the money, yes I get paid very well for the job however I do it for the love of the game. I love soccer and love to be a part of it almost every day of my life. I am always trying to better myself as a referee because I would love to ref the highest level game I possibly can.
14 represents a couple different things in my life. First, would be the amount of years I have played soccer. Another thing it represents would be the number I wore on my jersey all of the years that I played. I loved to play soccer, it was something that I would look forward to all of the time. However with tearing my ACL I had to give up on the dream of playing the game that I love.
18 represents how long I have been on this earth. 22 represents the point in my life when I plan to be graduated and starting my career as a nurse. I want to start my time as a nurse in the emergency room and eventually try to move into the operating room. I love to help people and science so nursing is a great fit for me. I may even eventually expand my education and go to medical school all depending on what doors open for me along the way.
I currently gain experience as an adult sitter for the Beaumont health system which has given me some great exposure to what life will really be like on the floor as a nurse. I also work for the Avasure program. This program allows a sitter to watch 4-10 patients at a time from a computer. We can talk into the room and set off alarms if the patient is not re-direct able. This program has helped Beaumont and Oakwood help bring down the number of patient falls by a huge margin
